US Armed Forces Executes Lethal Strike in Pacific, Leading to Four Deaths
According to a high-ranking military spokesperson, the American military carried out a lethal strike on a boat in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.
“A US joint task force conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a craft operated by a terrorist group in international waters. Surveillance verified the vessel was traveling along a known narco-trafficking route and was involved in illicit drug transport. A total of four male drug traffickers were eliminated, and no US military forces were injured.”
Context and Recent Actions
The statement follows a day after an announcement regarding a naval blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers to and from Venezuela. In that announcement on online platforms, the US president alleged Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and other crimes, vowing to escalate the military buildup.
Only on the previous day, the Pentagon said it had conducted strikes on three boats it accused of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, killing eight people. Since 2 September, more than 20 military engagements have killed at least 99 individuals, the majority off the coast of Venezuela.
Administration Defends Actions Amid Pressure
The government has encountered increasing demands to release video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, the defense secretary have refused to do so. The administration has defended its efforts as a success, saying it has stopped drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is exceeding the limits of legal military action.
While the administration has said the operation is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a top official appeared to confirm a broader political objective. In a recent interview, the senior advisor remarked the leader “aims to keep on destroying vessels until Venezuela's president cries uncle.”
This indicates the military campaign may be linked to a strategy to remove Venezuela's sitting leadership.
