An individual who laced sweets with sleeping medication and gave them to children at a summer program in the region has admitted sexual offences against two young males both nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was arrested after eight youngsters and a grown-up became sick at the location in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Yet, he denied a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was held in detention prior to a further hearing on November 28th.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed the defendant's actions to the court.
She explained his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were staying at a youth camp which he managed.
The man engaged in a "treat game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".
She told the court the man had conducted this practice with the boys "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She said the defendant had been capable of justifying this for many years as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepson had suspicions in summer 2025.
The prosecutor stated further: "In the summer" his stepchild had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.
"They chose" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
Mrs Prior KC said materials including lubricant, Vaseline and injection devices were found, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his worries.
She said the man continued to play the "sweet game" with six children that evening - that Saturday - and they were all sick the following morning.
"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that time," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, earlier informed that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the situation.
The prosecutor stated the children were having difficulty walking due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the law enforcement a second time.
She stated the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a room of five minors.
