The Substance Film
The filmmaker's bold satire addresses the demanding standards for feminine aesthetics as well as the dreaded aspects of ageing. Hollywood star Demi Moore offers an inspired acting turn playing Elisabeth, a 50-year-old actress forced into hosting an aerobics show on television. Pushed out thanks to her deceitful superior Harvey, she seeks out a mysterious and horrifying process titled "The Substance". This produces a younger clone called Sue, resulting in a progressively vampiric relationship between them. Friday 17 October, Paramount+
The Woman in Cabin 10
This suspenseful story includes the talented actress as Laura, a top-notch writer who decides to take some time off from writing about global conflict to embark on a high-end voyage alongside a terminally ill Scandinavian billionaire and philanthropist, her spouse, plus additional extremely wealthy individuals. However when an unknown lady falls into the sea one night and all passengers claims she was never there, Laura's investigative instincts kick in. Streaming currently, Netflix
Presence
The acclaimed director pushes his film-making abilities through this clever paranormal narrative filmed completely from the viewpoint of the spirit. After a clan with Lucy Liu as Rebekah and troubled teenage daughter Chloe occupies their fresh home, the camera – AKA the Presence – shadows their actions. The daughter appears conscious of the ghostly being, and it seems guarding her. However, the motive remains? The premise is enjoyable that remains concise, with a twist that may be unexpected. October 11th, 4.35pm, 10.10pm, the Sky channel
Nicolas Cage's Meta Comedy
Nicolas Cage fully commits to his unique fame in this self-referential adventure. He plays a narcissistic celebrity playing himself who accepts a million-dollar gig to attend a festive event at a Mediterranean location for the rich Javi Gutierrez. Hired by the CIA to investigate the suspected cartel boss, the actor's unconventional method is put to the test. This Saturday, 9pm, on Channel 4
This Creepy Thriller
The director's claustrophobic thriller holds up well even without a continuation. Located in the late 70s in Denver, a series of disappearances has made the children on edge. Once Finney is kidnapped by the villain and locked up in a dungeon, he dreads a terrible outcome. But the old telephone mounted nearby repeatedly calls, with eerie communicators offering help, as the prophetic visions of Gwen, his sister may be his salvation. An effective horror. This Saturday, nighttime, Film4
The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the conflict between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for Mammon in this director's wonderfully garish film adaptation of the disgraced TV preacher plus her lawbreaking partner. Andrew Garfield plays the venal Jim, who declares at the beginning, “God does not want us to be poor,”. He and Tammy Faye begin monetising the nation's spiritual convictions. It's an extravaganza of poor styling, bad makeup and bad faith, however Chastain achieves to show the character as a sympathetic figure. October 14th, 1.15am, on Film4
