"All my colleagues has been making comments about it being over for the last two weeks," commented one sibling.

"Our expectation had been that we would have a meaningful contest still when we got there."

Diminishing Hope

Yet now they are facing the prospect of extending their winless run in the country to 19 matches when the fourth Test gets under way in Melbourne on Thursday, 25 December.

The England team - and their supporters - will be keen to prevent a clean sweep.

It was mentioned that the "thrill and enjoyment" of head coach the positive style of play in recent times had "brought fresh energy to" Test cricket for England fans.

But the Ryding siblings said they had realistic outlooks for the remaining matches - and all they are requesting from the players is "a bit of fight".

Future Prospects

When questioned if he believed England will secure a victory in this Ashes series, Sam said: "The evidence suggests the hosts are a stronger side right now."

"It will require several individuals that delivers for the team and produces a match-winning display."

Even with the series lost, the fans are anticipating the trip.

"It will be a wonderful trip anyway," added another sibling. "We must adopt that attitude."

"Naturally, it's a let-down we don't have more to play for, but we have invested a significant amount already."

"We will make the most of having Christmas and New Year out there. It is also a new experience for us away from home during the festive period."

An educator, Katie is focused on enjoying the 21,000-mile round-trip as part of her Christmas holidays.

"If all else fails, I can play golf to rely on," she finished.
