Both Deceased Students Identified in Brown University Shooting as Police Press On With Manhunt for Gunman.

Two students who lost their lives in Saturday’s tragic incident at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – as a manhunt for their killer persisted following the release by authorities in Rhode Island of the sole person detained in connection in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

The young woman Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was called “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, per the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which offered condolences for her at a service on Sunday.

Cook was vice-president of Brown’s branch of College Republicans of America, as the club stated. The White House press secretary also expressed condolences publicly, stating: “It's indescribable. Remembering her loved ones and companions, particularly her mother and father.”

An International Student

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his first year of studies at the Ivy League university, family members said.

The victim's identification was confirmed by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He harbored grand aspirations of entering the field of neurosurgery and aiding others,” his sister, Samira Umurzokova said in a tribute.

What Happened

An additional nine individuals were wounded in Saturday’s attack in the school of engineering of Brown’s campus in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Authorities said by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-man taken into custody in a raid at a lodging about 17 miles from the scene earlier in the day was set to be freed.

“We have a murderer out there,” said the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

He added, “Occasionally a probe goes down a path, and then you must reassess and pursue a different angle, and that’s exactly what has happened over the last day or so.”

Public Fear

The gunman began shooting inside a room in the engineering building on Saturday, shooting over four dozen bullets from a handgun, a police source informed the Associated Press.

Police that searched the hotel seized two firearms and magazines when the suspect was arrested, as was reported.

The Wounded Victims

Of the nine hurt, a single scholar was discharged from care, said Brown’s president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in serious yet stable state, and one remained in critical care, officials reported on Sunday.
